About CCAL

CCAL's Mission

To raise awareness about and advocate for the widespread implementation of person-centered living principles, policies, and programs that foster person-centered living both in the community and in assisted living.

 Goals

·         Educate and provide informational resources to and gain insights from  consumers, families, and stakeholders about person-centered living

 

·         Strengthen the consumer’s voice and involvement in advocacy efforts regarding person-centered living

 

·         Convene and facilitate collaborative efforts and programs for idea and issue exchanges among consumers, families, and stakeholder groups

 

·         Advocate for linking research, policy and practice in ways that will  advance person-centered living outcomes

 

·        Monitor and respond to national issues that affect consumers’ choices and rights related to person-centered living

 

·         Ensure that the organization is financially secure, well managed and successful in achieving its annual goals

 

Principles of Person-Centered Living:

 

·         Assurance of individuality, choice, privacy, dignity, respect, independence

 

·         A sense of being part of a community and connected to the larger community

 

·         A home environment in which to reside

 

·         A culture of mutual respect among all members of the community – residents, families, staff, volunteers, administrators, etc.

 

·         A mutually nurturing and empowering culture to optimize the well-being of all members of the community

 

These principles will be appropriately applied for consumers living in the community and in assisted living.
